About Mona
Mona Dumais is a 25-year survivor of breast cancer, as well as an accomplished pianist and composer. The release of her meditative collection of music is a happy ending to Mona’s moving story.
Diagnosed with 4th stage inflammatory breast cancer in 1996, Mona endured more than 25 operations, along with chemotherapy and radiation treatments on her road to recovery. She relied on her husband Rob, family, friends and medical professionals as she healed physically. Emotionally, she charted her journey of the heart – joy, loss, healing – with her music. Her first CD, Waves of Love, is a collection of her favorite songs of all time. The recording of these compositions was performed and recorded in her living room as she regrouped and centered herself towards tomorrow. Her second CD, Music from the Heart, features 11 original piano compositions written during her recovery. She packaged her emotional self into this music which speaks to her journey during this difficult time.
Mona is sharing this evocative music to demonstrate her gratitude for the love and support she has received. She promised herself that if she continued to thrive, she would perform her music to raise funds to help others in need of support, resources and healing. Twenty-five years later, her music continues to inspire and empower young and old.
As an accomplished professional and musical performer, Mona has been performing for audiences since age seven. She was the keyboard and piano player with a local dance band while she studied to be a pharmacist. For decades she has taught piano, and performed with various theater companies and local venues. She performed for President Bill Clinton and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton during a visit they made to Rhode Island.
